Thought for the day
"“The potential mind supported by the affectionate heart alone can learn and instruct”"
The first and greatest civilization in ancient India developed around the valley of the Indus River (now Pakistan) around 3000 B.C. Called the Indus Valley civilization, this early empire was larger than any other empire, including Egypt and Mesopotamia.
The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations was established in 1958 by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate to ensure that its examinations become adapted to the educational needs of our country and assign the ultimate control of the same on the Council.
The Council administers two public examinations - The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) at the end of Class X and, subsequently, the Indian School Certificate (ISC) at the end of Class XII. Both examinations are held annually in March.
SRI TARALABALU SCHOOL IS THE FIRST AND SO FAR THE ONLY SCHOOL IN THE ENTIRE DAVANGERE DISTRICT, WHICH IS AFFILIATED TO THE COUNCIL FOR THE INDIAN SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATIONS, (ICSE) NEW DELHI, vide No. KA 226/2011.
It is an ideal educational institution surging ahead with the nation. It is committed to the objective of providing a value based quality education to the children.
The school has IK-I and IK-II (LKG and UKG), Grade I to IX standards for the academic year 2012-13. Higher classes get added in due course of time. It is planning to introduce ISC classes, i.e., Gr. XI and Gr. XII classes from the academic year 2014-15.
The academic year which begins in June and ends in April comprises two terms: June–October and November–April. The courses of studies extend from Nursery school (K.G.) to Grade X, at the end of which pupils sit for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (I.C.S.E.) Examination, New Delhi.
The pattern of studies ranges from an informal kind at the Nursery stage to a semi-formal kind based on environmental approach in early primary school and goes on to a progressively more formal kind in the late primary, middle and secondary stages. Homework is the integral part of the curriculum designed.
The I.C.S.E syllabus is designed to provide an examination in a course of general education through the medium of English without any diversification of studies, in accordance with the recommendations of the Kothari Commission.
Candidates for the examination are expected to have completed satisfactorily courses in a third language (Hindi), Art and Craft, Physical Education, Education in Moral and Spiritual Values, Socially Useful and Productive Work and Community Service. These are assessed internally by the school and the results count towards the award of the I.C.S.E. pass certificate. Internal assessment is now a part of the I.C.S.E. curriculum. Project Work is assessed from Grade- 1 to Grade 10. Field trips and social service visits and camps are organized.
English and Hindi are taught from Grade I. Kannada, the regional language is compulsory from Grade I. The prescribed syllabus for Gr. IX & X is available on the official website of ICSE, i.e., www.cisce.org. We offer the Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination which ensures a well-rounded education. The students sit for examination in six subjects. This is the examination conducted all over India and abroad, where ICSE schools are located.
The programme stresses on Experiential and Collaborative Learning through workshops, interactive sessions, role plays, project work, group discussions and games. The integrated curriculum enables students to think and solve problems, and comprehend concepts with manifold perspective. The activity based learning enables students to enjoy the subjects and learn without any fear. We seek to redefine achievements based on the capability for lifelong learning and acquisition of life skills rather-than mere academic excellence. Focus is oriented on students and an activity based curriculum for the holistic growth of the child in enriching and challenging atmosphere. Technology is an integral part of the curriculum from the nursery classes onwards and is used as a vital tool to enhance and accelerate the learning process.
The curriculum being followed in our school is as follows:
The child’s innate curiosity is ignited in his early years and he develops a love for learning which gives him a great head start in our kindergarten. Our kindergarten aims to nurture each child’s potential, through intimacy, love, care and encouragement. The beginning years have a crucial influence on later development and learning. Early childhood foundation makes a great difference to the future achievement of children. With our efforts which are well co-operated by the parents, our school children become self-motivated learners and face the world with confidence.
Each theme is taught through a unit of inquiry. Within these themes children learn all the major subject areas like Science, Mathematics, English, Kannada and Hindi languages, art and craft. Children are encouraged to become independent learners with a whole range of skills to ensure that a firm foundation is built for the next stage of learning.
Extracurricular activities include P.E. classes. The P.E. teacher plans exercises, which help in developing their gross and fine motor skills. Enrichment classes further reinforce concepts taught in class through various hands on activities. Music and dance lessons help to develop a sense of rhythm and love for these arts.
The ICSE curriculum is seamlessly amalgamated to build the foundations for the next stage of learning. Values like honesty, responsibility and sharing are instilled in our school children. The school focuses on the total growth of the child - social, physical, emotional, cultural, in addition to the academic curriculum.
